Charmion Performing Arts Center Competition Team is a group of dancers that will travel to compete in regional dance competitions and community events. Dancers must audition for a position on the team. This year we will have 5 teams. Petite, Mini, Jr., teen and Sr. Each team will practice each week on a specific routines, as well as attending technique classes. Our goal is to have an opportunity to attend a national dance competition! Dance competitions are a very positive and fun environment for dancers of any age. It is a great opportunity to meet other dancers and teachers. Many awards, and scholarships are available through competitive dance. Dedication is a must
The audition will be broken down by age group.
Miss Heidi and her assistant will be teaching some simple choreography to each group. These routines will be designed to 1) determine how quickly you can learn choreography; and 2) determine your level of dance expertise at this time. Miss Heidi and her assistant will review the test scores, along with their personal experience with each dancer, if applicable, and determine: 1) is this student ready for competition; 2) at what level should this student be placed (all competitions today have at least two levels: recreational for the newer, less experienced dancer, and competitive for the more advanced dancer); 3) what teams the student is being invited to participate on. Students will then receive a letter telling them if they have made the team this year, and, if they were accepted on teams, which level they have been placed in for the 2013-2014 competition year, and what teams they have been invited to join.
Dancers are required to participate in technique classes each week to remain on the Competition Team. Dancers of the Competition Team are required to take Ballet, Tap, Jazz/Hip Hop and Lyrical and take their competition class. Absences are limited in these classes as well, as this is the root and very important to your Competition Team performance.
Competition Team can get expensive, so please plan your budget and know your limitations. Other fees include travel expenses, programs, videos, warm ups, costumes, etc. Specific hairstyle (ballerina buns), makeup, costume, shoes, etc. is required for Competition Team dancers. This will all be at discretion of director and will be discussed with the team each year. Dancers are expected to comply. Unity is important on team.
Bad behavior or bad sportsmanship will not be tolerated! We want to set a great example for other teams and other students considering joining team. Please be respectful and kind to everyone you meet!
Other events may arise during our competition season, such as workshops, classes, performances, etc., where the competition team will be required to attend and represent the studio. You will be given plenty of notice for said events, but please plan to be flexible and available for events outside of competition and rehearsal.
Competition Team may seem like a lot of work, and it does require a good bit of dedication, but it is so rewarding and so much fun! The dancers get to meet so many other wonderful dancers and be exposed to different personalities and styles of dance. Many different awards and scholarships are achievable and the environment is always very positive and encouraging! I urge you to audition and come see what it’s all about!
